Yet another bag :)

My daughter and I are making these for her daycare workers. We found Christmas duct tape at Michaels and went to town! Neither one of us were as happy with this one as the others... The tape wouldn't stick nicely, I don't know if it was just a crappy roll or not, but nonetheless I think they'll be pleased. Especially when they get to the banana bread she's making to put inside!

A Birthday Bag

Today is my nephew's first birthday so it was time for us to play with duct tape again! Such fun!

Thanks for stopping by today!

A Baby Gift

**Edited to add link for bag, see end of post**

Last month our family was blessed with another little babe, I also became a great aunt! We had the baby shower for my niece and great-niece a couple of weekends ago and actually took pics of the gifts for you! LOL

I crocheted a blanket for the babe with Red Heart Soft Touch (and it's sooo soft!) and we made her a duct tape diaper bag, which thankfully she loved. She even had a friend ask "what brand is your bag?"... How's that for a compliment!!

I'll update with some links for the bag inspiration when I can... I'm posting from my phone, my computer and camera aren't really on speaking terms at the moment :). Thank goodness for the Blogger app!

Thanks for visiting... Have a great week!

** Duct tape bag inspiration can be found here.  You should try it, they are A LOT of fun!  They will slowly replace gift bags in my house I think, this one is actually the third bag we've made.

An Update

Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it?

2011 has been a challenging year in my house and it just hasn't been very easy to blog regularly. Computer issues galore, DH had some health issues, working like a dog, and most of all, we became grandparents in August to the most amazing little man I've ever met! But seeing as how my daughter is finishing high school this year, it's been quite an adjustment, first emotionally and then living with a baby in the house again! But we're settling in, she's doing amazingly well in school, and it's time to update the blog!

Just a quick update post, I'm learning the Blogger app on my new phone... I hope to be back real soon to share some fun stuff :)

Thank you for stopping by, I've missed visiting with all of you!

A Blankie

Our family seems to be in a baby boom.  There's always a something happening with a hook and yarn for little people lately.  This blanket is one of the latest...  finished a while ago, but not quite on time like I was hoping for.  Not my fault he arrived over a week early!

Granny Square Baby Blanket
RHSS ~ honeydew, buff and aran

This is my first granny square blanket and I tried joining the squares as I went.  I wasn't totally happy with the corners but learned a few things as I went along and will probably be doing it again I'm sure.  Sorry for the crappy pics, we haven't had a very nice summer here, and I was rushing to take pics so we could give the little man his blanket.

Looking at my finishes for 2011 so far it appears that I've been bit by the crochet bug, and hard... Only one stitchy finish in the list so far!  Well, it's soon to be two since I have an exchange that's due out in a week.  I finished the stitching today and am planning on trying to get it finished tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting!

Commenting issues

I can't seem to comment on any blogs unless their comment screen is in a popup window.  It always asks me to sign in and then tags the comment as "anonymous"...  I haven't been able to find why this is happening.  Is anyone else having this problem or know what the fix is?  Thanks :)

TUSAL Posting

A few days late, but here's the TUSAL update for July's second new moon...  There's a few new threads in there from the exchange piece I'm working on, but not much else.  I think I'm going to try and push for a thread length a day, maybe that will help the mojo to return.

Decision Time

A few days away is exactly what the doctor ordered.  And now that we're back to real life, there's some important decisions that need to be made...

Any ideas?

Back online!

Yay!  We're finally up and running here, hopefully without any further issues :)

A couple of quick pictures before we head away for the weekend...

North Pole stocking ~ progress since this post
{pardon the wrinkles!}

TUSAL catch up

a finish!

The progress on the stocking is all of the stitching I've done since February, which explains why picture after picture, the TUSAL jar still looks the same.  Feels pretty pathetic, but I've been bit by the crochet bug and have been spending most of my crafty time with a hook & yarn.  This little pumpkin hat was done up one evening for a little fellow we'll meet in a month or two.

There's a lot more to show, just not the time right now.  I'll be back with more next week after we get away for a couple of days.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope your weekend is fabulous!

a late tusal

I tried to upload a pic from my daughter's blackberry, but no such luck...  I only have computer access at the office still (grrr...) so I'll update this post when I'm able to post a picture again.

Have a wonderful week friends!  Can you believe we're into June already???  Wow.

A Useless TUSAL Post

That's right...  I reused last months picture...  April is work month, not stitching month :(  But on the bright side, it's over and now I can have my life back!

So, the goal for May?  Stitch my little heart out.  And buy a new computer as soon as the tax man gives me my money back.  Until that happens, it may be a little quiet around here since there's no computer access at the house right now.  But that means I should have lots of good stuff to show when I'm back, right?

Until then, may you all end up with a good case of numb-butt syndrome!

The ORT Report

Unfortunately, not much to report.  I think I'm lucky if I hit a whole hour worth of stitching time last month.  April's goal ~ beat March's stitching time!!!  LOL

I was hoping to post this yesterday, but we're having internet problems at home.  We were on the phone with tech support on Saturday because we were having a couple of issues and they tried to "fix" it.  Problem is, now it's way worse!  We can't log into Facebook, Blogger, Youtube, Netflix... grrrr.  Hopefully we'll get it resolved quickly, I'm going into Weeds withdrawals with no Netflix!!

K... gotta get back to work :)  Have a great week!

Stitch Red for Your Heart Exchange for Faye

I received the most wonderful, sweetest email from Faye tonight letting me know that the piece I stitched for her for the Stitch Red for Your Heart exchange arrived in its new home.

Quaker Scissor Fob
by Sharon Manspeaker @ Cross Stitch Happy
32ct Mushroom Lugana & DMC
freebie found here

And some goodies too...

Unfortunately this piece and I didn't get along... AT ALL!!  I think I spent almost as much time frogging this piece as I did stitching it, which explains all the red in my last TUSAL post!  I was almost finished and found a major counting error which ended up in restitching almost the entire back side of the fob!  Grrr...  But in the end I love how it turned out, and I love the new coffee cozy pattern I found that crocheted for Faye too.  (I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing more of these!)

Thanks again for the lovely email Faye...  I'm soo happy you are enjoying your exchange, and thanks for your patience!

Wishing you all a wonderful Friday tomorrow (yipee!) and an awesome weekend ahead :)  Hockey has wrapped up for us for the season now (yipee again!) and I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend...  I don't think we have ANY plans for Sunday, and with fingers crossed that I won't have to go in to work, I don't even think I'm going to get dressed!  haha!  We're rolling full gear into the our busiest time of year, only 39 more sleeps until our tax filing deadline!!  So, needless to say, it might be a little quiet around here over the next few weeks.  Hopefully it will be a better year than last year (323 hours in the month of April alone) and I won't be away too much...  I get grumpy when I get behind on my stitchy bloggy reading :)

Thanks for stopping by!  Your visits and comments are appreciated more than you know :)

Stitch Red Exchange from Diana

Today's mail brought my Stitch Red for your Heart Exchange from Diana.  Such a sweet package to be sure.  Diana stitched a tiny little needlebook for me full of specialty stitches, and sent along this great bag too :)

{my apologies for the totally crappy picture}

And a closeup of the needlebook (with a much better photo!)...

A nice treat for a Monday, for sure!  Thanks Diana!  Now if the package I sent out would only arrive at its location...

This last weekend was a busy, busy, busy one!  We had dance competition on Friday and then filled Saturday and Sunday with 5 hockey games between the two kidlets... It was playoffs, unfortunately my son got knocked out on Saturday and didn't place, but my girl played four games this weekend and her team finished 3rd.  An awesome finish for a team that were considered the underdogs by many teams in their division.

{a pic of my little guy from the weekend}

Since I knew I would be spending many hours at the rink this weekend, I decided it would be a perfect time to start a new blanket :)  Friday night I started the Log Cabin Granny from Dutch Girl Diary.

I am loving this!  There'a almost one more full round of colors on it already, it's so bright & cheery, just perfect for the gloomy, snowy, rainy first day of spring!

Thank you for stopping by today!

A Giant Granny Square

I finished this blanket about a month ago, but just got around to taking pictures tonight...  We're babysitting my nephew right now and I figured they should be able to finally take his blanket home with him :)

Granny Square Blanket
Red Heart Baby Clouds
Blue Sky & Aquamarine

This blanket started out differently than how it ended up... it was frogged twice actually!  First it was a blanket I saw in Crochet Today, but it just "wasn't right", so apart it came.  Then I decided it would be a granny stripe #2, and wasn't happy with that either.  So that got ripped apart too and a simple, giant granny square turned out to be just what I was looking for.

Thank you for stopping by today!

TUSAL Posting

TUSAL time again ~ already!  February flew by for me,  it just felt like I blinked and it was gone!!  So here's what I was up to last month...

As you can tell ~ all stitching was RED!  And unfortunately, I was hit with a case of the frogs too :'(  I found a major counting error in my exchange piece which ended up with me having to redo half of the piece I was working on and missing the mailing date.  Grrr, I was mad at myself!  These things happen, but I don't want to be known as one of "those"...  I guess I just need to redeem myself and mail early with the next one, but not until after tax season is over and life resumes as normal!

Since February absolutely FLEW by for us, I'm focusing on trying to slow things down around here...

Thank you for stopping by today, I'm wishing all of you a fantastic weekend!  Hopefully this "slowing down" that I'm trying to accomplish will work and I'll be back before another three weeks passes by...

Hair Massacure

Here is the story of a girl who is trying to make a difference in the world with her participation the 2011 Hair Massacure...

Jocelyn managed to raise $1,110 in donations leading up to the events today!  Thank you so much to everyone who supported her.

Jocelyn, we are so proud of you!!!  xxoo

TUSAL... and other stuff too :)

I figured I'd better get on here tonight and share my TUSAL with you all since I know I won't be able to post for the next couple of evenings.  Ahhh, hockey....

So, without further ado...

Do you see them?!  There's new threads in there...  it feels like it's been soooo long since there's been any kind of progress around here!  But this month I can see it! Yay!

I've been working on BoInk a wee bit.  I seem to have misplaced the extra threads I bought for this piece at the moment, so I haven't finished the red in the bottom centre block yet.  Well, to be totally honest, I haven't really looked either!  Tsk, tsk!

And I've spent a little time on my North Pole stocking too.  At the rate I'm going, my hubby can expect this for Christmas of, oh let's say, 2015??  I would love to get this done for this year, but realistically speaking, that probably won't happen.  But I guess we'll just wait & see, shall we?

And I've been working with a hook & yarn too.  I'm weaving in the ends on the granny square baby blanket you see below and then get to work on the border.  Pretty good timing, the little guy this is intended for isn't due to arrive until about March 5.  I think it will actually be done on time!  I think I can, I think I can...

I have more crochet finishes to share, I just am waiting to see daylight!  We were on the go sooo much last weekend, with 5 ice times in 3 days between the two kids and a pile of other stuff in between.  Hopefully I'll be sharing them here real soon :)

Thanks for stopping by my space today, Happy February!!

Before and After ~ For a Great Cause!

I don't normally post much about my kidlets on here, but my girl has done something that's made her mama's heart swell with pride and I must share with you :)

My daughter Jocelyn, who's 11, has decided to participate in the St. Valentine's Day Hair Massacure to raise funds for cancer research and the Stollery, our children's hospital that she stayed in last year.  In this event you can donate your hair, dye it pink or shave your head to raise awareness.  So what is she doing?

And after:

And not only did she cut her hair off to donate and color it pink, she's decided to shave her head as well on Feb 11!!!  Way to go my girl, we are so proud of you!

If anyone would like to help Jocelyn achieve her goal, please go here to donate. Thank you so much :)

Stitching? Really?!

Well, a little bit anyways :)  I've been working on my North Pole stocking some lately.  Not too much, but there's been a lot done since the last pic I posted, in February!  I wish I could have found a little bit of a darker blue fabric since the chimney smoke doesn't show very well, but it'll be ok.

And there's a BoInk pic too!  I hang my head in shame on this piece, both Rebekah and Andrea have finished theirs and I'm slowly plugging along on mine.  And I mean S-L-O-W-L-Y too!  I've only managed the four little red blocks and not quite all of the bottom centre block since I last posted a progress pic in July!  I think I remember something about having to post a weekly update?!?  Just call me Slacker ;)

And what helps me get over the fact that there's not much stitching going on?  Why dreaming about stitching of course :)  I acquired all of these lovely stitchy books & magazines over the holiday season and there's resulting in all kinds of wonderful stitchy dreams...

And crochet ones too!

Aren't those vintage crochet magazines amazing?  The publishing date is 1964.  My grandma came across these in the book store she volunteers in and scooped them up for me for Christmas.  Along with a couple of those cross stitch magazines in the other pic and the book.  And a big bag full of embroidery hoops, about 20 of them or so.  And she shared some treasures with me too, like this beautiful petit-point necklace:

I don't know if you can see the detail in this little flower, but I put the dime beside it to show how small it actually is.  Definitely a treasure.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you had a wonderful Friday!
