Last Exchange of 2012

I rounded off the year with one last exchange.  I hadn't been very involved with exchanges this year compared to the last couple of years...  between the house, work, and just not feeling it so much, I wasn't a very active stitcher, or blogger for that matter.  But I decided to sign up for the Stitcher's Choice round over at the HoE blog and I think that might have sparked up a little stitchy fire under my keister! haha

I got Marie's name for my partner and this is what I chose to stitch for her:

Merry & Bright
by Erynne Chard
{freebie found here}
32ct Mushroom Lugana
DMC as charted

And some goodies I chose to fill out the package :)

I haven't received my piece yet, but will be sure to share as soon as I do!

The end of the year is so many things for me.  Christmas is my favorite holiday, my birthday falls during this last week and the new year is a fresh start.  We can all wipe the slate clean and look forward to so many things!

2013 has me looking forward to so many things... the next round of the TUSAL, the 2013 Hair Massacure (which I'll be volunteering at this year!), stitching my first HAED (this one) and preparing the next one, and so much more!

Happy New Year friends! I wish you and your family much health & happiness for the new year ahead.  With love from my home to yours <3 p="p">

An Exchange

Today I went & mailed my exchange piece for the Stitchers Choice ornament exchange with HoE.  So I posted on the blog that it's on its way and updated my finishes on my sidebar.  Doing that, I noticed that I hadn't ever posted about the last exchange piece I sent out :)

In June, I sent out an ornament to Kathy for the Christmas Birds exchange.

Merry Wishes
32ct Mushroom Lugana
DMC as charted

I love, love, love this piece!  Sometimes these pieces are so hard to let go of, but knowing they're going to stitchers so they'll be appreciated makes it a little bit easier :)

Signing off to prep brunch that we're hosting tomorrow...  it's hard to believe that it's just over a week until Christmas!  I'm nowhere near ready ~ how about you??

The Costumes

Oh bother, I meant to get this up by the weekend but time just seems to disappear so quickly on me!!!

It was so cold here last week, it was snowing & raining and the wind was blowing like crazy.  My kids only lasted about 45 minutes out there, and Hannah and Chance were home after about 20 mins.  We had bought goodies for 100 kids as we are only a block from two elementary schools now but only had 9 kids show up.  I definitely made their time out there worth their effort :)

Anywho, here are the costumes that were decided upon this year!

For Chance, Buzz Lightyear by day, Tasmanian Devil by night (love this one!).  I might be biased, but isn't he the cutest???

Ethan the Ninja, with his cousin the Power Ranger.  This was taken at the end of the night, they were so cold!

And Jocelyn went as Lego Blocks!

We saw this on Pinterest and she surprised me by saying that she wanted to do this - after she told us last year that she was going to be sure to be something "boring" after all of the attention her Rubik's Cube got her.  I think she secretly loves it ;)

Another fun Halloween gone down in the records books... and I think I have Ethan convinved to make a costume next year instead of seeing what he can find on the rack at the store.  That makes this crafty mama's heart happy!

We're Almost Ready!

It's really no secret that we like to play with duct tape around here!  We found some fun, new Halloween prints at Michael's a couple of weeks ago and couldn't help scooping it right up!

Pardon the phone pics, they're a combination of my Instagram feed and the fact that I was too lazy to find the camera...

Isn't the candy corn the cutest?

This year is Chance's first (real) Halloween, at 2 months old last year he didn't really get to participate :)  This past weekend we made him his own trick-or-treat bag that should be sturdy enough to use for a long time.  He loved playing with it, so much so that I couldn't take it away to get a picture!  And the funnest part?  It glows in the dark!

Hopefully his mom can pry that bag out from his little fingers and get Gramma some decent pics, he wasn't letting go of it for anything!

And then we played with it a little bit more...  You may remember Jocelyn's costume from last year?  Well, here's a little sneak peek of this year's in progress...

Any ideas of what she's going to be?  Let's hear them!  I'll share our full creation after Halloween!

It's Been Awhile...

I've been out of the groove for a bit... with the move and everything else my stitching/crafting mojo has left me for a little while :(  Well, maybe the mojo didn't exactly leave, just all of my energy did!

But we're settling in, getting unpacked and soon pictures & curtains will be hung I'm sure.  We are waiting on contractors to install new windows in the living & dining rooms.  That should happen within the next two weeks and then we can really get settled!

All that said, the crafting front has been slow, with not too much to show for it, but there has been little snippets of things happening here & there!  Most of which I've been sharing on Instagram, but here's a little bit for you, seeing as I needed to dust off the old blog and get an update on here!

Stitching:

A wee bit has happened, mainly gridding fabric for a GIANT (to me) project I can't wait to actually start!  I need about 10 more lines of gridding and then I can get started with the actual stitching.

I've also signed up for the next round of the Perpetual Christmas Ornament Exchange on the Hooked on Exchanging board.  Partner info comes out this weekend and then I can choose my design!

Crochet:

I dusted off the hook this last week!  It felt soooo good to play with yarn for a little bit, I put it away over Christmas break and barely have touched it since.  My wrists have been feeling pretty good over the last while so I decided it was time to test it out again.  I pulled out the blanket I have on the go and wow, I only had half a row left to finish for the body of the blanket!  Now it's weaving in ends & border planning time...  Thankfully I wove in most as I went along, I just got lazy towards the end :)

Afghan pattern from Dutch Girl Diary

Crafting:

A finish!  This was soooo much fun!  There's a group of us gals that get together once a month for "Ladies Night" and this month we went to a place called Crankpots to paint ceramics.  We got our pieces back yesterday and yaaaaaayyyy!  I am so in love with the piece I painted!  I think there's a few of us that are going to go back next week ;o)

I guess that about sums up what I've been up to.  I still haven't tackled the boxes that have been piled into my craft room...  I can't believe I have that much stuff!  There's likely some purging & definitely some organizing that has to happen in that space, but that's another post all in itself!

Happy Wednesday peeps!  Thanks for stopping by this dusty old space ~ I'm dusting it off, I promise! ;o)

My Current WIP

We've got our house! We're doing a little work to it, but it's coming along... The plan is to move this Saturday and I cannot wait to be done with packing & cleaning! Haha

Here's a pic of my WIP :) We refinished the hardwood in the living room & dining room and I just love how it's looking! Thanks for visiting, hopefully we'll be settled soon and the crafting can resume as normal, in my craft room!!!

It was Forgotted

While browsing through the JCS Halloween issue, I noticed that the Plum Street Samplers chart "Not Forgotted" that was displayed on the cover was missed in the magazine...  how ironic!

Just CrossStitch has added the chart to their corrections page, found here :)

TUSAL ~ July

I don't know how I always miss the new moon!!! Jeez, feels pathetic, lol :) But there's been a lot of exciting things happening around here lately... Weddings, lots of family in from out of town, and we bought a house! We're very excited, it's been a long time coming!!

But anywho, back to the TUSAL update... Not a lot, but a wee bit of new orts this month. Here you go!

July 16, 2012

S.A.B.L.E.

We're one step closer to SABLE here this week... My LNS called to let me know my copy of the JCS Halloween special arrived! Now I just can't wait to get my hands on the Christmas ornie issue...

Duct Tape Belts

We always like to incorporate a little bit of handmade with all of our gifts.  I think it's important for my kids to actually put a little bit of thought into a gift instead of just going to the store & pulling something off the shelf that they think someone might like.  Don't get me wrong, there's usually some store bought in there too, but there's a lot more pride in the gift when it includes a little handmade.

Last month Ethan had a birthday party for a friend at school and so we pulled out the duct tape & made a belt for his friend. {inspiration here}

And then of course we made one for the gift-giver as well :)

These are fun, and so quick to make too!  And a recent trip to WalMart had a new print (mustache's!) landing in our cart, so now Jocelyn thinks she should have one too ;)

Happy Saturday!  I hope you're all managing to stay cool... we're just starting a forcasted week long heat wave, so I think we're going to head to the pool for the afternoon.  Cheers!

Exchange Received and July Goals

I received a great exchange in the post from Lynn a couple of days ago.  Lynn chose to stitch me Woodland Snowfall from LHN and she did a wonderful job on it!

Lynn also enclosed a packet of seed beads as well as a hand turned needle threader her husband made.  The needle threader is made of black palm and is just beautiful!  Thank you Lynn (and your husband too!) for a lovely exchange :)

And an update on goals...  I almost forgot about these since I just started doing them.  Alrighty, here goes.

June Goals:
~ finish ornament exchange & mail for June 15 deadline ~ yes!
~ stitch & finish an ornament for Christmas gifting ~ no :(
~ work on backstitching for hubby's stocking, chart his name ~ backstitching yes charting no
~ play with new software (I'll share more about this soon!) ~ yes, My Memories software, and held a giveaway too!
~ make one project with duct tape ~ yes, two! will share this week :)
~ prepare next stitching project (HAED) ~ partly, bobbins wound & still need to grid fabric

July Goals:

~ stitch & finish one ornament for Christmas gifting
~ continue backstitching on hubby's stocking, chart his name
~ one duct tape project
~ grid fabric & start HAED

I think that will work for July...  I am on holidays for the next 2 weeks so I should be able to accomplish something!  Ha!

Happy 4th to all my American friends & family, I hope you enjoy some fun & safe celebrations today!

TUSAL ~ June

June's TUSAL post!  A little late, which seems to be how I roll with all my TUSAL posts, but better late than never!

Most of the snippings this go around have been from my latest HoE Exchange, which hopefully will arrive at it's destination soon!  Then I can share...  I can hardly wait ~ it's been a long time since there was a proper stitching post around here!

It's been a crazy busy week for us... wrapping up the school year, trying to get caught up at work to start holidays next week (yay!) and a little bit of celebrating too.  My daughter Hannah graduated high school!  It's been a roller coaster, but she did it!  Woot! Woot!

It was a fun night & a rewarding experience to see all of these young mothers receive their high school diploma.  They've worked so hard to reach this milestone ~ Congratulations Class of 2012!

And since we had everyone around, we used that opportunity to snap a 5-generation photo with my dad's family!

Well, I think that's about it for today...  Thanks for stopping by friends!  Happy Hump-Day :)

MyMemoris Software winner!

Since there was only one comment on the post for the MyMemories software giveaway it was an easy job declaring a winner!  Chris ~ I'll be sending you an email shortly!

Stuck in my Head

Have any of you heard Lennon and Maisy Stella?  I saw a link on Facebook to this video by these two sisters about a week ago and it has been stuck in my head ever since, they are amazing!

Did you see the MyMemories giveaway I'm hosting?  Go to this post to enter ~ I'll be drawing a winner on Sunday!

MyMemories Digital Scrapbooking Review & Giveaway

I mentioned in one of my goals for June that I wanted to play with some new software and would share details soon...  I was recently approached by MyMemories to see if I would like to receive a copy of their digital scrapbooking software to review on my blog.  Well, sure!

I've dabbled with scrapbooking over the years...  Actually, it's more like the want to scrapbook, but never actually doing anything with it!  I have a few supplies and scrappy paraphernalia, but let me tell you, this digital scrapbooking stuff ~ that's where it's at!

The software was a cinch to download and within no time at all I had chosen my pictures and layout and had come up with these!

Summer 2010

There are so many options, different layouts & templates that come with the package as well as a bazillion others to choose from in their store.  And a bunch of freebies too, like this Play-Score-Win layout!

How fun is that?!  A few years past one of the moms did a DVD for all of the kids with pictures from throughout the hockey season.  Wouldn't it be great to add some hockey cards in for the kids using this software too?

And not only did I receive a copy of the software for my use, but My Memories Suite has also given me the ability to host a giveaway for a copy of this software for one of you!

Here are the rules:
1. Be a follower...if someone new mentions that you sent them in their comment then you will receive another entry.
2. Visit the My Memories website and choose your favorite digital pack or layout and comment here telling me the one you liked.
3. To have more chances, follow My Memories Suite on their blog, Facebook or on Twitter and then post another comment here telling me where you are following My Memories Suite.

I'll draw a winner on Sunday June 17.  Have fun!

June Goals

I've been thinking about starting to make monthly goals for myself...  maybe that way I'll feel like I'm making more progress towards the things I want to get done instead of just dreaming about them. So, starting today, I'm challenging myself to set, and record progress of, monthly goals.  Let's see how that pans out, shall we?

The Goals:

~ finish ornament exchange & mail for June 15 deadline
~ stitch & finish an ornament for Christmas gifting
~ work on backstitching for hubby's stocking, chart his name
~ play with new software (I'll share more about this soon!)
~ make one project with duct tape
~ prepare next stitching project...

Very excited about this one, my first HAED!  This chart, and one other, are just a couple more items I bought for free(!) with PayPal cash redeemed from using Swagbucks and SuperPoints.  Love that!  I bought the fabric & threads needed last weekend, so now I need to get ready, winding floss, etc.  I've been thinking about gridding the fabric and I've never done that before... does anyone have any suggestions?  What ways have you tried?

I'd also like to start a new crochet project this month.  There was a pattern for a solar system mobile in last month's Crochet Today magazine which I'd like to do for Chance's first birthday.  Problem is that I've been having a lot of issues with my wrists & hands since last fall and haven't been able to do much, especially crochet.  The doctor was thinking it was carpel tunnel, but the neurologist ruled that out.  So now they're trying to figure out what's causing the pain & weakness through my wrists.  The good news is that while crochet's been really difficult & I've had to pretty much stop for now, cross-stitch hasn't been too bad.  Especially bigger pieces when the fabric is in a hoop.  Holding the fabric in hand is a little more difficult, but not impossible.

Well, I guess I better go & get started on them!  Have a wonderful weekend!!

TUSAL ~ May

Well, another month has flown by! There's a few new threads in the TUSAL container this time around... I've finished the stitching on the hubby's stocking (except his name, still have to chart that out!) and have started backstitching. I've also started a new exchange piece, which is where the reds are from.

I added my Mother's Day cards from my girls into the pic, they both made me chuckle! When you open the one on the right it sounds just like my kids in the car... "Mom, he's touching me!" "How much longer?" and the dreaded "I don't feel good..."!!

Happy Wednesday friends, hope the rest of your week is good!

TUSAL ~ April

I'm late with this posting, but there wasn't much progress anyways... :(

My work/life balance is coming back to normal, so hopefully there will be more to show (and on time!) for the next TUSAL posting!

The Liebster Award!

I've been awarded the Liebster Blog award from Andrea.  Thanks Andrea!

Liebster is a German word, meaning "favorite, dearest or beloved," and the Liebster is awarded by bloggers to other, newer bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers, to spread the word and help the new(er)bies gain wider recognition.  The award comes with four conditions that each recipient must satisfy when accepting:
1. Choose five up-and-coming blogs (with fewer than 200 followers) to award the Liebster to.
2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
3. Post the award on your blog. List the bloggers you are giving the award to with links to their sites. Leave comments on their blogs so they know about the award.
4. Share five random facts about yourself that people don't know about you.

 The Blogs:

Phew, that was the easy part!  There are so many wonderful blogs out there, it's so hard to pick.  But this award has been making it's rounds and I don't believe it's made it's way to any of these talented ladies yet.  And now for the hard part...

The Facts:
1.   I've been blogging for almost four years now (that part you know), but I get so nervous every time I hit "publish post".  I love to share my thoughts & projects, but I'm a wee bit self-conscious about what everyone will think when they read it.  I wonder if that happens with everyone, or if I'm just weird like that?!?  I would have thought that I'd be more comfortable with it by now.
2.  Birds scare me.  I blame it on my dad, my brother & Alfred Hitchcock.
3.  I'm a homebody... there's really no other place I'd rather be than home with my kids.  And DH too of course ;)  We love having movie nights where we're all piled up on the couch with blankets & popcorn!
4.  I'm discovering different avenues of social networking...  I've recently joined Twitter & Instagram.  I've been having fun with them, but that same nervousness applies.
5.  We've never owned our own home.  I'm hoping that will change before the end of 2012.

Well, there you go!  Five talented ladies that I hope you all will go & visit!  As well as five random, totally useless facts about me :)

We're in to April now, which is a heavy work month for me, working for an accounting firm and all.  So I hope I'll be able to poke my head in another time or two this month yet.  I started a new crochet project yesterday that I'm pretty excited about...  Socks!  I hope to have an update to share soon.

Have a great week friends!

TUSAL ~ March 2012

How on earth is March almost over?!  Goodness I cannot believe that we are almost a quarter of the way through 2012.  Time just keeps going by faster and faster, I'm just trying to slow it down!

This past week was the new moon... here's my TUSAL update.

Still stitching!  I've still only been crossing x's on DH's Christmas stocking.  It's been a fun stitch and I'm making progress.  I'll be starting backstitching soon!  Am I the only one that dreads backstitching?  But I cannot wait to see the piece come to life once that happens, and there's quite a bit of beading on this piece too.  It'll look so good under the tree with the others!

Remember in my last post when I told you that I ordered myself a treat?  Well, it arrived and I cannot wait to start this!

I treated myself to the limited edition Simple Gifts ~ Hearts kit from Praiseworthy Stitches...  love this!  And the best part was that it was FREE!!  I cannot wait to start it, maybe May 1st as my post tax season treat, since that's likely the next time I'll be able to dedicate much time to it! LOL

Back to the grind tomorrow, have a great week!

February 22, 2012

TUSAL ~ February 2012

Another month has flown by again, here's my TUSAL update for this month.

There's a little bit more in there than last month... actually, quite a bit!  At least compared to what it had been for so long...  The only thing that's seen the light of day this month has been the hubby's stocking, but we're making progress!  I'm excited about this one, it's coming along nicely.  But that's what happens when there's actually stitching being done :)

I ordered myself a little stash enhancement a few days ago and I cannot wait for it to come so I can share!  I'm so excited about this order, and do you know what the best part about it is?  It was FREE!  Yup, that's right ~ 100% free.  I paid for it with PayPal gift cards I earned through Swagbucks and Superpoints...  if you're interested in learning about these two sites feel free to send me an email, my address is in my profile.  They're fun and are helping me add to that ever growing to-do list!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, your visits make me smile!

Playing around

Just playing around with Hipstamatic a little bit, trying to decide which settings are my favorite :) Now I'm going to cozy up and stitch for a while. I hope you're having a great weekend!

A Blanket for Baby

Well of course the grandson of a crocheter had to have a blanket of his own too!  There was a little sneak peek a little while back when Chance was introduced, but now it's time for a proper post!

And to show you how very long it took me to post this...

Almost six months already... wowzers!

Hair Massacure 2012

Well, it's time for what is turning into the Annual Hair Massacure update!  Here is my little man's story...

And a HUGE thank you to everyone who supported Ethan with his fundraising efforts this year.  He collected an amazing $1,181 in pledges!  And it looks like he may have a partner in crime for next year... thanks Dad! ;o)

Ethan, we are so proud of you young man, well done!
