We're PINK! ~ Hair Massacure 2013

It's that time of year again!  Once again, Ethan is participating in a local charity event called Hair Massacure, in support of Make-A-Wish, Ronald MacDonald House and the Stollery (our local children's hospital).  He's colored his hair pink and will be shaving his head on February 15!

And this year he has company!  My dad is joining in the ranks of "proud victims" and has colored his hair and will be shaving his head with Ethan. Way to go Dad!

Ethan and his Opa have set their fundraising goal at a lofty $2,000 and are just over the halfway mark!  Go boys!  **Edit** They upped their goal to $2,500!!!

I decided this year to pink things up and show them my support ;)

I'm also very excited to be participating in my own way this year ~ I will be volunteering all day at the event.  We've only ever spent a little bit of time on the event floor with the kids getting their heads shaved and I can't wait to experience more...  It's an amazing, emotion filled event and I'm so grateful that I can be involved this year!

If anyone would like to help Ethan and his Opa achieve their goal, you can visit their donation page here. We all thank you so very much for your support :)

**You can see our family's past participation with the event here!

IHSW ~ January

Last weekend, for the first time, I joined in on the International Hermit and Stitch Weekend (IHSW) for the first time over at Joysze's blog.  I didn't have a lot going on last weekend and it seemed like the perfect time for me to jump in and join everyone else!  I stitched solely on the HAED I started this month and here's my progress...

Before:

And after:

Sorry for the crappy phone shot...  I went to pick it up again last night and remembered that I didn't grab a pic :)

There's a wee bit of progress, but not really a lot like I had hoped for!  I think it's hard to see progress on a HAED too, unless it's drastic, especially when you're working in a section with so many similar colors like this part.  It might be easier to see if I took before and after pics of the highlighted portion of the pattern!

I had a lot of fun joining in, browsing the other blogs linked up and anticipating my stitching time, even if I couldn't commit as much time as I had hoped for...  But we did lace a hockey net, does that count?

I'm looking forward to the next one - I think it's normally the 3rd weekend of the month (somebody correct me if I'm wrong!).  The third weekend in February is a long weekend here - woohoo!

Thanks for stopping by friends, I hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods!

I Said it Would Never Happen...

It's no secret that we have a bit of a love for duct tape around here, is it?  I don't know if people know how much fun we really have with it though!  My heart beats a little faster when I'm flipping through flyers or browsing the aisles at Michaels and see that it's on sale.  Haha, cause I can always justify "just one more print" if it's on sale, right?

Anywho, a while back I was browsing the duct tape in Walmart when I saw this...

I pulled out my phone and snapped a pic, I had to post this pic on Instagram & Facebook... "Oh my.... This is one #ducttape print that WILL NOT make its way into my craft room! Yikes!"

I couldn't believe it!  I mean there are soooo many fun patterns of tape, but really?!?  Did they have to go this far??

And then comes Christmas & our family gift exchange...  one of my sister-in-laws kids got my one niece who has Beiber Fever.  The first thing she did was call me and ask me "Where did you find that Beiber duct tape?  What can you make for us to give her with it?"

How can I say no to a handmade gift for one of my nieces???  I was doomed!

So late one Saturday night my SIL Sherry came over with a roll of duct tape and Hannah and I were put to work.  The making of these bags is definitely a two-man job (at least in my experience!).  Sherry sat & laughed at us and stole my camera...  here's some of her pics.

Haha, I never knewthat I stick my tongue out when I'm fighting working with duct tape until I was looking through these pics afterwards :P

The trickiest part of this one was trying to align the print.  Normally I don't bother, or it doesn't matter, but it was important for this one.  Considering that, the finished product turned out better than I would have guessed!

I wish we had better pics, but it was late & Sherry was taking the bag home with her.  Sorry for the glare, I couldn't get one without it!

**I do have to say though, this duct tape never did get into my craft room...  we were in the family room the whole time.  Likely because the craft room is still a huge mess of boxes from the move.  ;)

The First TUSAL of 2013

The first TUSAL post of 2013!

My stitchy ORTs look good this month, but truthfully a lot of it is from the fraying edges of my fabric... I never take the time to do anything with the edges, I'm just too darn excited to jump right into my new projects! What about you?

And after talking about it for a long time, and then gathering supplies, gridding fabric, etc., I've finally started my first HAED.  I'm loving every teeny tiny stitch so far!

Doesn't look like much yet, does it?

I've got some fun news to share, I found a new LNS in my area!  Besides Michaels, I only knew of one needlework store in my city.  My mom and I were out on our annual shopping day and stumbled across a new store!  It was kind of deceiving as their name is The Frame Corner and so I'm sure I've seen the store again and again, but never knew there was fun stitchy stuff inside!

And the most exciting part?  Are you ready?  Stitching get-togethers! And retreats!  I've been envious of the stitchy getaways and get-togethers I see around blogland, I don't really know any other stitchers that I can visit with and talk stitching.  There's my mom, and my girls dabble with it once in a while, but that's pretty much it.  I'm soooo looking forward to venturing out and getting to know other stitchers!

Stitchers Choice Exchange from Melissa

This week ended on a good note!  I got home today and there was a lovely package sitting waiting for me, my Stitcher's Choice exchange from Melissa!  Melissa chose an ornament from Homespun Elegance to stitch for me.

Melissa, it's just lovely, thank you!  And perfect timing on arrival too, it gets to spend a lovely evening on the tree with the others before I pack it away tomorrow :)
