The Final Finish of 2013

I had one last finish for 2013, a small ornament that I finished, quite literally, on the way out the door to gift it (which is why the ribbon didn't get ironed before attaching!).

I love this ornament...  absolutely everything about it.  And I was quite excited to give the gift too.  It was for a gift exchange where I was assigned to bring something that started with the letter O.  Unfortunately, I don't think the recipient was quite as excited to receive a handmade ornament as I was to give it :(

I was pretty bummed, as I really thought everyone in this group would be appreciative, which is why I gave it.  Next time it will be something off the rack - maybe an orange picture frame to cover the letter O (yuck!).

Has something like this ever happened to you with a handmade gift?

This is such a sweet finish!!! I would have loved to receive it! Is that person a cross stitcher / crafter?? If yes, surely she would have appreciate the time you took to work on this... Such a shame

I love it! I'm adding that one to my to-do list now that I see your cute finish.

Some people just don't 'get' hand-made like this. We forget that sometimes since we are all so hooked on this stuff in the stitching community. I think all stitchers have experienced this kind of disappointment. Move on and forget about it! ;-)

Such a sweet ornament and a shame it wasn't appreciated. I have had it happen to me before and won't gift my stitching anymore because of it, unless it's a good friend that stitches too :) I think we understand just how long it takes us to stitch each finish.

What a terrific ornament you created! I would have been thrilled to receive it. There are people out there who don't get the hand-made concept and in turn, we experience disappointment from their lack of appreciation. You could go with a bag of oranges or a jug of orange juice next year!

Your ornament is fantastic.

I've had people not show appreciation for the time and work that went into making something.

That's someone with no life and no appreciation of art. Ignore them.

Such a sweet little ornament. A wonderful gift, I think.
I'm sorry that it didn't get the appreciation that it deserved. I know this experience, too.

I love this, Nicole! It's a shame that some people just don't appreciate all the love and time that goes into creating a handmade piece...

That's so cute and glad you squeezed in one more finish for the year. I did an ornament a month in 2012 and missed it last year so I'm going to try again this year. I have a *huge* bag of ornament patterns and supplies so I could do ornaments probably for a long time LOL.

Ugh. I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with it. It's an ADORABLE ornament and you know any one of us who comments here would have cherished it to pieces. Some people just have no appreciation of handmade things. We all run into them but it still stings every time. :(

What a lovely piece. This is such a sweet finish. What a shame the recipient didn't appreciate it. Just found your blog, your stitching is wonderful.

What a pretty ornament and such a lovely finish. I am sorry it wasn't as well received as you would have hoped.

I have given handmade gifts before that have been met with open hostility, because it was seen as a cheap alternative to a store bought gift. The gift was 'accidently' left at my house when my guest left.

Very sweet, so sad it went unappreciated. For that reason, I only gift to those I know are crafters or appreciate handcrafted items.
