socks for my boy

After learning to knit with double pointed needles last year, and taking classes to knit socks (which were with worsted weight and larger needles), I upped my game and ventured into the world of sock yarn and itty bitty needles.

I learnt that a) sock yarn and little needles require a lot more time and a lot more stitches and b) I still love making socks, regardless if I'm using fingering weight or worsted!  I'm thinking that hand knit socks are totally where it's at.

And so, I made it my goal that before the year was out, each member of my family should have a pair of mama-made socks.

First up, socks for the boy.

These were started last summer, sometime in July I think.  In October, we ventured out of town for the weekend for a hockey tournament for the girls, but left my boy with friends so he wouldn't miss his hockey. (Our hockey family is our greatest gift, I don't know how we'd make it through the season without them!)

I decided, that since my boy didn't get to go on this road trip, it was only fitting that those socks became the knitting mission of the weekend.  Seemed only fair that he should have his mama-made socks when his mama came back from a weekend away.

A Touch of Handmade

It's really no secret that we crafty types like to incorporate a little handmade with anything we give.

Such was the case over the holidays, when my office held a small gift exchange for our Women's Network.  We had to give 5 gifts, over 5 weeks with a $50 overall budget.  I found this cute little Christmas plant, as the lady I had to give to indicated that she liked plants and flowers, but the ugly white plastic pot was horrible on it's own!

I found some Christmas cotton in the crap craft room and in no time we were set for the giving!

It made me laugh as this didn't even give away who her Secret Santa was, I think she thought it was just part of the pot.  And that surprised me!

What have you added your crafty touch to lately?

like she needs another hobby...

You know how sometimes you put things off for so long that you don't even know how to begin?  That's how I've been feeling with the blog... there's been so much happening, so much crafting and so much life, yet I've been procrastinating.  Thinking "I should post about that", and then I don't and can't even give a reason as to why.

So here I am ~ hoping to be jumping in with both feet again!

Last summer, I attended a Paint Nite with a girlfriend.  They're really popular right now, and selling out super fast!  We actually booked this last April, and went last July.  I was so stressed, as I'm someone who cannot draw a straight line!

"How are you doing that?" I'd say to her...  "OMG, I can't believe you think this is fun, I'm so stressed!"... and she'd reply with "Relax, it's fun! Your painting looks great."

And, in the end, I chose to listen to her, to relax and have fun.  We had a great girls night out.

And guess what?  We did it again.  And again.  And maybe even again (and a time or two more than that!).
